We were supposed to leave to fly out to Hong Kong from our hotel at 9:20, so we were all packed up and ready to go, and at 9 we got a call from our guide, Kelly telling us that she just found out our flight was cancelled and the only one today to Hong Kong wasn't until 4pm, but that if we wanted to ride the train that we had to leave in 5 mintues. We decided to jump on the train. We had made arrangements and gotten directions yesterday to get to the temple from our hotel. We were bascially on our own once we left Guangzhou. They told us that the temple was about a 40 minute bus ride from our motel.
Anyway, once we got to the train station, it was like a big fancy train ride, not like a little commuter train that I expected. We had to scan our luggage and do security just like the airport. We some stuff in one bag that they had a fit over and it took quite a while to get through, with security passports etc. but once we got on it was real nice. It was about a 2 hr train ride. We went through some country side, but saw a lot of buildings on the way.
When we got to Hong Kong, we didn't have any idea where we were. I coulnd't find a pay phone for ever. I wanted to call the mission home/temple and talk to some one. I had found a map and it looked like we were only 2 train stops away from them, but didn't know how far away the train station was from the temple once we got there. They have an automated system and I had to try about every extension on thier menu before I got a hold of someone.
Long story short, we finally ended up finding a taxi with a van that could haul all of us and our 90 suit cases and we made it.
As soon as we got there BrinLi wanted LeeAnn to take her picture in front of the water foutain that was there. I think she might have thought we were at another hotel. But President Goo was waiting for us, he's the mission president here right now. We went into the waiting room and we had him explain a little bit about Heavenly Father and how we pray to him and the temple and how families can be sealed together forever in it. She was really quiet and he couldn't get her to say much, but I think something clicked with her. It was kind of cool, she really started speaking more English words after we were there than she has before. I wonder if she got that point that we really are going to be together forever and maybe she wanted to try a little harder? I don't know, it might really just be a coincidence, but it sure seemed like there was a change with her after we left.
Anyway, that was the main thing that we wanted to come to Hong Kong for and we got it done. We had to haul our bags all over the place and find our way (with some help from above), but it was worth it. We are excited to come home tomorrow! We fly out at 11:45 and get to Salt Lake at 3:38 PM on Sunday. We are excited to see everyone again and be home in our own beds!

  1. Oh my gosh I am sitting here bawling like a baby. I really think that you were supposed to go to the Hong Kong temple. I have thought a couple of times that maybe it would help to give BrinLi a blessing when she was asleep so that it wouldn't frighten her. She is such a sweetheart. We can hardly wait to see her and hopefully give her a hug. Love you all, Mom Lovell

  3. What a great story! I can appreciate the effort it took to get to the HK temple, especially with 90 suitcases in tow. It's not an easy place to find but what an impact it will have on BrinLi!
